George III Silver 'Vintners' Company' Marrow Scoop

Made by Thomas & William Chawner
London c.1765
Length 8.65" (22cm); Weight 2 troy oz (63g)
Price 635.00

Condition Report
Armorial for the Worshipful Company of Vintners
Maker's marks struck 4 times
(This is known as a 'Duty Dodger'. Rather than sending the marrow scoop to London Assay Office
for hallmarking, where duty (tax) had to be paid on the weight. The silversmiths instead struck
their maker's mark 4 times, deliberately distorting them to make it look as if it had been hallmarked)

Excellent quality
Good gauge and condition
Without damage or repair
A very desirable marrow scoop
